What is an Anaesthesia
Technician?
A health professional who is responsible for anaesthetic areas and
equipment. They have detailed knowledge of anaesthetic procedures, equipment
and drugs. They are also familiar with the full range of surgical procedures
and are responsible for setting up the anaesthetic area for the Anaesthetist
in preparation for the intended surgery. When patients are brought into the
anaesthetic area, the technician must provide skilled assistance to the
Anaesthetist during the induction, maintenance and emergence from
anaesthesia.
Anaesthesia Technicians are directly responsible to the Anaesthetist. Their
relationship to the Anaesthetist is exactly comparable to that of the
theatre scrub nurse to the surgeon.
What are our Qualifications?
Recommended training is set down by the Australian and New Zealand College
of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) Policy Guideline PS8.
Where do we work?
In any health care setting where anaesthetics are performed or life support
is needed.
